Bertrand de Salignac-Fénelon was initially appointed attaché to the embassy in Constantinople in 1902, Saint-Petersburg, Berlin, then secretary to the embassy in Peking, Washinton, Rio de Janeiro and Havana. At the time of the mobilization he had been secretary second class to the embassy at Christiana in Denmark since 16 April 1914 (see all his appointments in his record in the military recruitment register and in the Annuaire Diplomatique de la République française, 1914, p. 291).
