Je sais que la Veuve a été vous voir<ref name="n3" /> : je me représente tout ce qui a entouré, précédé, marqué et suivi cette visite. Il fait ici un froid qui rend tout plus difficultueux, plus lent – et plus triste ; j'ai été passer deux jours chez le Commandant Cuny à 5 km d'ici (au repos aussi<ref name="n4" />) et viens de rentrer. Que de choses je pourrais vous raconter ! Mais il faudrait à la fois Mirbeau et Courteline<ref name="n5" /> pour en donner une idée exacte. – Il paraît que Robert n'est plus par ici<ref name="n6" />. –

I know that the Widow has been to see you[3]: I am just picturing to myself everything that surrounded, preceded, marked and followed this visit. There is a cold here that makes everything more difficult, more slow – and more sad; I spent the last few days with Commandant Cuny five kilometers away from here (and at ease as well[4]) and have just come back.
