  1. Name suppressed by Lucien Daudet in the first publication. Daudet indicates in a note that "this M. Z..., an obscure writer, died immediately after the war however and did not profit from the local infatuation that Marcel Proust talks about." We do not know the identity of this writer. For this paragraph we have followed Lucien Daudet's version in which he replaces real names with initials and asterisks. Names of characters from Molière (Célimène, Alceste, Oronte) have been substituted by Lucien Daudet for the real first names, as he explains in a note. - Kolb replaced all these substitutions with multiple "[...]" which obscured the reading of the text even more.
