Bordeaux ne connaissant probablement pas l'adresse de Proust rue Hamelin, encore récente, il est vraisemblable qu'il aura écrit à l'auteur aux éditions de la Nouvelle Revue française, 37 rue Madame, d'où cette lettre lui aura été retransmise : même à supposer que cette « longue lettre » ait été écrite dès l'annonce du prix Goncourt, donc dès l'après-midi du 10 décembre, et postée dans la soirée, Proust ne peut donc pas l'avoir reçue avant le 11 décembre, du fait de ce (probable) circuit.
