  1. Lucien Daudet, who had been discharged, was posted to the Red Cross in Tours at the start of the war. In an unpublished letter to Albert Flament dated 29 November 1914, Lucien Daudet wrote: "Leaving on Thursday, I'll be at Hotel Brunswick, 66 Boulevard Béranger", so he must have left on Thursday 6 December 1914 (Centre André Gide - Jean Schlumberger, Fondation des Treilles). Proust must have received the same information, making the likely date of this letter towards the end of November. [PK, CSz, FL]
